Earlier in the year I brought a friend of mine to the Vietnamese Lunar New Year Festival. There we were able to get a taste of Vietnamese food, and afterwards compared it to others foods particularly American. It was mostly rice and grains, with a sticky texture. We were given samples of different dishes to taste. While not a large amount, the food was still filling, and the desert was not overly sweet.

Because she is not Hispanic, having someone of the culture provided the motivation to attend the Quiencenera event, that was primarily attended by Hispanics despite being open to the general public.

On a separate occasion, I was able to serve as a bridge to the Hispanic culture and food when my mentee wanted to go to a well known Mexican restaurant,

Recently, when I visited the booth of the Sikh student organization the club had Somosa for people to try. After continuing a conversation with one of the members, I ask what Somosa was. It was described to me as "...pie crust filled with delicious potato".
